Trash Talk Tuesday: Prepared for the Final Season of Dexter?

Go home, Deb, you're drunk.

Spoiler Alert!!!

On Sunday, the final season of Dexter began. My initial thoughts? It was underwhelming. I was expecting more out of the first episode. Truthfully, I want Deb to go away. The direction her storyline seems to be going is an overdone plot device: the traumatized character angrily turning to drugs for escape. I’m imagining in every other episdode, Deb threatening to turn herself and Dexter in. Dexter being this angry over her ignoring him is obnoxious. You have a child, Dex, you can use him to keep you “human”. You don’t need Debra. I’m worried they are going to have him realize he’s in love with her also, which will make me vomit and scream and want to kill the writer who made that decision.

Can we talk about Harrison more? He speaks! Dexter is the worst father right now. He had been so great. But now, he’s getting blood on stuffed animals and leaving Harrison in his UNLOCKED car. Dear Daddy Dexter needs to have a reality check. Once again, Harrison is the perfect person to define him as a normal human. He doesn’t need Debra. He has a son. This might just be my child loving mommy instincts kicking in and getting annoyed. I’ll get over it if Dexter never leaves Harrison in a car alone again. Hopefully Jamie won’t be screwing nasty, gaunt-looking Quinn next time Dexter feels like stabbing one of Deb’s boyfriends…

I was shocked and pleased by who Evelyn Vogel is, and why she came to Miami Metro. At first I thought they were turning her into a new version of Doakes, someone who knows Dexter is messed up but can’t prove it. I’m glad she already knows and wants to use that knowledge to her advantage. I also find this big bad serial killer to be a great choice for the last season.

Hopefully the Deb storyline surprises me. If there is one thing this show does with complete grace, it is surprising the viewers. I’m already ready for the next episode!

Also, if you didn't see it before here's the link to my post about Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.
